LH Overview
Luteinizing hormone is a glycoprotein gonadotropin secreted by basophils in the anterior pituitary gland. It is mainly used to promote ovulation. Under the synergistic effect of FSH, it forms the corpus luteum and secretes progesterone. Generally, the normal value during the non-ovulatory period is 5～25mIU/ml, lower than 5mIU/ml indicates insufficient gonadotropin function, which is seen in Sheehan's syndrome. High FSH and high LH indicate ovarian function decline, LH/FSH≥ 3 is one of the basis for the diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome.
